The Church Year
Next Sunday I’ll be teaching a lesson on the liturgical calendar! One of my favorite topics! I love how the different calendars of our lives cycle through each other, anticipating and following, not quite lining up. Making us think about why and when we are doing things. I’m excited to induct a new generation into the Advent: blue or purple (or violet??) debate.
I love the symbolism and the story of the church year. from Advent to Epiphany to Lent to Easter and Pentecost and the counting up or ordinary time propers. The church year cycles through the story of eternity. I’m so excited to share this with my Sunday school class this week!
One thing I am not excited about is the coloring page resources that were available online already. They didn’t match the Godly Play set we use to explain the church calendar. They weren’t accurate to the weeks that are in the coming year. They had too many weird icons on them. Or too many details. So I made one that fits the coming year’s calendar of weeks, and also fits with the seasons as celebrated in our particular church context. So I made one. I’m putting it up here in case it’s useful to anyone else.
